Kaleb’s birthday

Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at 11:02 pm (Uncategorized)

Today would have been Kaleb’s 2nd birthday. We lost him to a tragic accident when he was 7 months old, when my sister propped up a bottle and left him in our parents room while we were at work and he suffocated.

Two years ago today he was born. This is his birth story:

There was 2 weeks til my due date. The day started out like any other… I was totally ready to get the kid out! I was joking around with my bosses wife (also my co-worker and milking partner) I was only working half days. We were on a cold streak and she told me that I should wait until next week to have the baby, because it would be warmer then. The dr.s were talking about inducing a week early since I had some problems with Glenn and he was 10 pounds… and it looked like this baby was going to be big also. I went out to use the skid-steer and clean one of the pens. After I was done I went to let the group of cows back in, there was 1 cow in the group that I always kept an eye out for, because she like to come after me. As I opened the gate and turned, she was right there… I was freaking out, if she slammed me into the wall it wouldn’t be good. So as she was coming after me, I tried to think fast and grabbed the gate and slid under it. I’m very flexible and pregnancy didn’t change that. The gate is about 3 feet of the ground, maybe a little shorter. I was thankful that she didn’t get me, it was a close one. I took a couple of steps and it felt like my water broke. I was leaking something and my pants (black sweatpants) were soaked to my knees. I went in and told Lori (my milking partner and bosses wife, and very good friend of mine) that I think I had to go home, I’m pretty sure my water just broke… But I wasn’t having ANY contractions. After I went into the bathroom to go pee, I noticed that it was actually blood! My water hadn’t broke, but I was bleeding bad. After I came out one of my bosses confronted me and asked if I needed him to drive me home. I told him no I could drive myself and that my water hadn’t broke, but I was bleeding bad. Now that I think about it, I should have taken him up on the offer in case I would have passed out or something, but nobody ever said I was smart! lol. After I called Forest and couldn’t get him to answer the phone, I was secretly freaking out. Although I think both my bosses and Lori were freaking out more that me. After I got home, Forest had just gotten home from going to the gas station. I changed cloths, and packed some cloths for Glenn just in case they decided to keep me although I was half expecting that they would just send me home since the bleeding wasn’t nearly so bad, I could still feel the baby moving, so I knew he wasn’t dead. Then we went to my parents, since they were on the way to the hospital. Almost an hour drive total. Then we get into the hospital, and the receptionist has to call and find out weather to send me to OB or to ER. Off to OB we go. My dr.’s on call, yay! Put a monitor on me to monitor the baby, call ultrasound to come bring a machine in the room so we can get an u/s of the baby. The dr. called over to a bigger hospital (they are a branch off them) to find out what they wanted them to do. They ordered a series of tests and out of a total score of 10 the baby got a 2. He wasn’t doing good. I was informed they were taking me in for a c/section as soon as the surgeon on call got there. Meanwhile my Dr. and the Pediatrician are reading up on infant revival (to brush up on it) This is starting to freak me out! As they are bringing me into surgery and am getting a spinal, the surgeon looks at me and says “I remember you! I repaired your bottom.” Asked me if I preferred a bikini cut or up and down cut. I just want my baby to be ok! But if I have to choose then Bikini! As they are taking him out the anesthesiologist says it’s a girl! (I’m thinking What! At least I brought an outfit for both just in case) Wait… Wait… It’s a boy. Kaleb León Lukes. All I can think about is he looks big! lol. 9 pounds 7 oz. 20 inches long. My dr. said that he was the loudest screaming baby that he has ever heard of all the s/cections that he has assisted on.

Magic Eggnog

Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 12:52 am (Uncategorized)

A child’s mind is a very powerful thing. I have heard that a childs owwy can heal alot faster is you kiss it and make it better. It’s because there mind believes that it IS better.

Today we had Thanksgiving dinner at Forest’s grandma’s house. His sister was up from Kansas with her 2 kids, her husband, and his 4 kids. Through out the day, Glenn was getting more and more clingy. By 4:30 when we left, he wouldn’t leave my lap. He felt a little warm… He slept on the way home and woke up at around 6:00. got up, looked around, (I took his temp and it was 101) climbed on the couch with me and went back to sleep until 7:30. I took his temp again and it was 101.8. About a half hour later Forest was having some Eggnog. Glenn decided that he wanted some, so we let him have some. Out of the blue while I was pooring some, he told me that He NEEDED the eggnog to make him feel better. If he drank it, it would make him feel all better. So I decided to play along and agreed with him… After he drank the eggnog, he perked right up and was moving around and playing, and getting better by the minute. I got the thermometer back out and took his temp again. 99.3! His temp was also dropping!!! I couldn’t believe it. Within an hour he was almost totally better… I’m not saying that the Eggnog was what made him better, but it sure is a neat and funny cooincidence. I’m not sure what he had, but it sure didn’t last long, whatever it was. knock on wood… Hope that I didn’t just jinx myself by saying that it didn’t last long! lol.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Friday, November 23, 2007 at 1:59 am (Uncategorized)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving. Every year I normally go to my grandma’s house. Although I didn’t go this year because I had to work! My grandma lives about an hour away from me so I don’t get to see her (either of my grandma’s for that matter) very often. To make up for not being there on Thanksgiving, I went and spent the day with her Last Saturday. It was nice to make $20.60 an hour, which is what they were paying me to work the holiday… But it was wierd not being at my grandma’s. This is the first time that I have EVER missed a holiday there. I did manage to get off work early, and Forest’s sister and her husband are up from Kansas, with there kids (her 2 and his 4). Her 2 kids are the ones that we had staying with us during the summer! I can’t believe how much they have grown! They are both getting so tall, I swear before I know it, Gregory will be as tall as me. (I’m 5′ 7″). He is 10 years old. Wow! It has just dawned on me that in December, it will be 10 years since Forest and I first me with that first letter that he sent me… Anyways they will be leaving again on Saturday after the thanksgiving dinner that we will be having for Forest’s side of the family. And then on Sunday we have another thanksgiving dinner at my mom and dad’s house.

On the bright side, to make up for me working on thankgiving (as if the double time wasn’t enough) I have a 3 day weekend!!! I’m so happy and excited. 3 whole days of not seeing dairy cows, getting kicked, stepped on, dealing with calves (as cute as they are, they can be very frusterating), and getting to spend lots of family time together!!!

Babies in my belly

Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 9:08 am (Uncategorized)

That is what Glenn told me this morning, he had babies in his belly. He stuck out his belly as far as he could and put his hand on his back and waddled away. It was so funny!!!

I’m not sure where he got it from though since we haven’t been around anyone that has been pregnant for awhile.  My sister had a baby about 4 months ago, but we only say her a couple of times when she was pregnant.

Then after a little while he told me that he had to have his babies, so he ran and got a couple of kittens and pretended to pull them out of his belly button (again he never asked and has never been told how babies come out of the belly. although he has seen our cat have kittens).  It’s a black one, he ways as he is pulling the first one out of his belly… It’s an orange one, as the second one is being pulled out.

Children really are a source of never ending amusement! lol.

laughing in his sleep

Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 3:38 pm (Uncategorized)

Normally I wake up to Glenn screaming, because of a bad dream or him being scared… Last night I work up to the sound of Glenn laughing histarically. Then he says “that’s so funny” then laughs some more and then snoring again. It was so cute and funny. I sure would like to know what he was dreaming about, and what was so funny about it.

some week…

Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at 3:33 pm (Uncategorized)

I have been pretty busy lately… And on top of everything, my best friends mom died on Saturday. We have been friends since the 3rd grade, so I knew her mom pretty well also. She was 42 years old, she died from cancer. So on Saturday I have to go to a funeral.

And then this morning I got a phone call from my daycare provider telling me that there wasn’t going to be any daycare today because they were transporting her husband to the hospital. And that she thought he was having a heart attack. So since I didn’t have anyone to watch Glenn I took the day off work to spend with him.

I’m so lucky…

Saturday, October 6, 2007 at 2:01 am (Uncategorized)

Today I was thinking this December the 12th to be exact, I’m going to be married for 5 years! wow… I’m finding it a little bit hard to believe. Forest and I have never really had to work at our marriage, it has always come easy for us. Until about 14 1/2 months ago that it, when our world got turned upside down when we lost our 7 month old baby, Kaleb. At one point I almost left him… But today we are getting back into the grove of things and are marriage is becoming smooth and easy as it was before. I don’t feel like he takes me for granite and he doesn’t feel that either. He tells me often that he appreciates everything that I do and that he thinks that I’m the prettiest girl in the world (I think the last one isn’t all that true as I think I’m average looking, but it’s nice to know that he thinks I am anyways), And when he tells me it he actually makes me feel like it’s true! Just one look or kiss and he can make me go weak in the knees or give me butterflies. It’s neat to think that after being married to him for this long he can still do that to me. And he is always telling me how lucky he is to have me, when I think I’m the lucky one!

Our son Glenn is a really good kid, (for the most part, lol) I think he’s my dream child. He slept through the night since he was 3 weeks old, potty-trained at 18 months, and listens pretty good most of the time.

I’m ending with one more picture of Forest and Glenn playing on the slide together. I really can’t believe how lucky I am to have such a wonderful husband and son!!!

Night of Terror

Monday, October 1, 2007 at 11:06 pm (Uncategorized)

Last night was horrible! We had a big storm and Glenn is absolutely terrified of thunder. So every couple of minutes when we had some thunder he would start screaming bloody murder. It was a very long night. I was in his room every couple of minutes. At one point I brought him in our bed with us so I could try and get some sleep. But then he wanted to talk and giggle and annoyed Forest. So back to his room he went… If it wasn’t the thunder it was some other noise. One of the times he was screaming he told me that he heard a sound that went mooo. (it’s funny to think of that one now…) I told him it was just one of the cows in the pasture. We have beef cattle. At one point Forest came in and gave Glenn his toy gun and told him that if he heard a noise that scared him that he should shoot it. That worked for a little bit since he slept for almost 3 hours after that.

By the time Forest got up I had gotten 3 hours of sleep. And was so not looking forward going to work on 3 hours of sleep. I layed in bed for a couple of minutes after Forest got up and I must have fell back asleep because next thing Forest comes in and is jumping on the bed like a little kid. It was kind of funny. He tells me that it’s time to go to work… I look at the clock and I have 5 minutes to get up, dressed, eat, and leave for work. Forest didn’t go to the woods because of the rain and so he watched Glenn and let me sleep. I thought it was so sweet of him.

Finally Back.

Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 12:49 am (Uncategorized)

I was completely frustrated! My internet was down since Monday afternoon. I changed somethings on my cell phone account and it totally screwed some things up. All my lines including my internet line were down. It took them 3 days to work out the bugs and get them going again!

Wednesday night was a nightmare. Work went ok for the most part. I was actually going to get home early for a change. I was so happy. As I was pulling out of the driveway at work, my car felt funny. So I pulled over and sure enough my car had a flat tire!!! Just what I needed… Anyways, so I turned around and pulled into the shop at work. I called my FIL and asked him to tell Forest that I might be late (I couldn’t call him because the stupid cell phones were down and we don’t have a land line phone). SO then I go to change the tire and I can’t get the lug-nuts off. So I called Bill, who is the guy that lives in the house at the farm that I work at. He came out and he couldn’t get them off either. He went and got the air one (I can’t think of what it’s called, lol, but the shops use them) And he barely got them off with that. I felts so stupid calling him to help me when I am totally capable of changing a car tire myself. Anyways there’s $125 dollars for a new tire that I can’t afford right now… And that’s the cheapest tire that we can find around here that’s rated for my car.

Glenn is doing great. We had a blast today. I only worked a half shift and spent the rest of the day with him. He went for a 4 wheeler ride and I went for a walk and took pictures of him. Then we came back in the house and played with blocks and legos. We were making big towers and silos (as Glenn was calling the round ones we stacked), then we would knock them down and start all over.

I love times like these… Makes being a mom totally worth the frustrations that we have from time to time. You know the ones I’m talking about… When he goes in the fridge after you tell him not to for a piece of pie that he’s not suppose to have until after supper takes a big handful of filling and looks so proud of himself, or when you walk out of the bedroom and from across the hallway you can see into the living room and there’s a baby kitten flying through the air, or the bullheaded child that thinks he knows better that you and you should be listening to him and not the other way around.

I love you more that you will ever know my sweet baby Glenn… Read the rest of this entry »

Horse Ride

Monday, September 24, 2007 at 1:28 am (Uncategorized)

Today Glenn and I went to for a horse ride. It was absolutely gorgeous with all the different colors of the trees. It actually felt alittle hot compared to how it has been the last few weeks. We have been having weather in the 40’s and have had a low of 23 already! It’s just crazy.

I love that Glenn is into horses right now. I’m hoping that he will continue to have a love of them so when he is older then I will have someone to go on long rides with. As it is now I don’t have anyone to ride with so I ride by myself.

Glenn has a new saying. When he is excited about something he says holy mokes! It’s cute how he ways it. He annoys his Uncle Jamie so much sometimes. Everytime a bad word comes out of his mouth Glenn tells him that he is bad and he shouldn’t say that word… And there has been a couple of times Glenn was outside with Forest and Jamie, and Glenn comes in and says Uncle Jamies was very bad! He said a BAD word!!!
